The First Two Weeks

Alrighty! Now that I feel like I'm back in the land of the living let me tell you a story.

Once upon a time on May 15, 2013 I gave birth to the cutest baby boy ever! On May 16 we were both cleared to go home and start life. On May 18 my parents came to visit and meet this grandson and help us put in new floors. My Mom met me at the hospital where I had a Jaundice check up for Sean. (He passed no worries). My mom and I sat there visiting for a while, while Greg and Dan started putting together my new floor. Eventually we went back to watch them work.
On May 20 Daniel's parents popped up for a visit. On the 21 they left and so did Greg, but my Mom stayed.

May 22 I had a seizure and ended up back in the hospital. (Ambulance ride! it's a shame I don't remember though. . ) Seizure was caused by my high blood pressure (200+/120+) {highest this Lloyd hospital has seen} that had been slowly creeping up on me since I got sent home from the Hospital with Sean. It's what they call Eclampsia. Yes, typically you get this WHILE pregnant and only a 1 in 4 chance after being pregnant. Has something to do with how the placenta attaches to the womb (yes Sean's placenta came fully out when I gave birth) and where your fundus is placed and all the hormones messing around in ya. My fundus was high and the hormones are all outta wack hence the hospital visit. It will clear up though over time as the hormones level out and leave and my body returns to normal. Until then I am on labetalol which helps to keep my blood pressure in the normal.

Anyway so I wake up attached to monitors and stuff and completely out of it and back in the hospital. Dan and my Mom had to explain to me a few times what happened. It's still kinda hard to wrap my head around. It's like a whole day of my life just disappeared. I vaguely remember a few things about Wednesday. Mostly I just remember Thursday.

So I got the joy of being stuck in the hospital for 6 days. I also got the joy of having a catheter, staying in the ICU, losing a ton of weight and being a human pin cushion. Really though waking up Thursday I was amazed to see my ankles. (they had kinda completely disappeared while pregnant). I have my ankles, face, hands, feet, hips, legs all back. The water weight is definitely gone! YAY! (i'm still not brave enough to jump on a scale just yet. . . )

Let me tell you the ICU is a pretty sketchy place. People moaning and calling for water and beeping noises everywhere. They almost needed to move me to the psych ward. Eventually I was able to get my own room and sleep in peace! Well except for the time they would come in a check my BP. No worries all is well now. We had one little scare since I got sent home but all is fine. And I just get to take it easy now. . which does kinda drive you insane.

That's the jyst of the story, as I said I really don't know what happened this is all what I've been told. So I am home now with my happy healthy baby. I couldn't be happier that he is completely healthy, sleeps like a champ, eat likes a monster. I'm glad it was me and not him that this happened too because now I have the perfect excuse to sit on my couch and hold my little man. So feel free to stop by and visit. Just knock and come on in because I am a little to lazy to answer the door. :)

What's a blog post now without cute little pictures of my man?

He's a thumb sucker!!! SO CUTE!

love his little rolls! Thanks Jen for these pictures! LOVE THEM!

hanging out in the ICU with mom. He's so awake!

Sean Gregory Fyfe

Here is his birth story. It's really long. So feel free to just browse over some spots. Or just skip to the end where all the pictures are!

It all started on Tuesday with my Doctor’s appointment. I was looking forward to it. I was 40 weeks (and 2 days late). Knew that this appointment was going to all be about my options about when this little munchikin would come join the world. So in I went to my appointment with Dr. Naude at 11:40. Met with the nurse first (typical) and they took my blood pressure, 151/95 (just a tad bit high. .. okay you caught me. It’s high!) I’d been borderline high since 34 weeks but even me seeing it hit that mark I just knew I was going to meet my little boy a little sooner than anticipated.
I got into Dr. Naude’s office and he looked and my file and said. . hmm that’s high and took my pressure again(it was still high). Noticed my puffiness around my feet and moving up my leg (Basically all to my knees.) and my face was starting too. Called in a nurse who came in and he gave her instructions to call the hospital to get me in for testing and such. He checked me out and said things were moving along up there but I wasn’t hugely dilated or anything. So told me to go to the hospital and they would do some blood work and a non-stress test. He also said that if they weren’t crazy busy they would induce me (GULP!).
I got out of the clinic and called Daniel. I was in shock a little and told him what the Doctor told me and then said I think he better come home. Luckily work didn’t want a crazy pregnant woman hunting them down so they let my hubby off. So I waited at home for Daniel and called my Mom because I was kinda starting to freak out. I was having a hard time embracing the idea that I could have my baby today. So she talked to me until Daniel came home and I was calmed down by then (thanks Mom). Got to the hospital around 1:30 and got all checked in a hooked up. Daniel and I just talked while I clicked the button when I felt him move. Haha sometimes I forgot. I was just so used to him moving and forgot about the button. Daniel reminded me when he could see my belly going crazy. During all this my blood pressure went down, baby’s stayed fine and he just kept on wiggling.
After the test the nurse told us everything looked good and we could go home but to come back in 6 hours to run the test again and then to come back in at 7:30 in the morning and they would induce me. That made me relax knowing I had time to prepare to meet my little man. So we headed out it was 3:30, we ran and grabbed some snack wraps from A&W to hold us over until we got to go to Tiffany Low’s for dinner (I was really excited for that), and then I was planning on going to the Relief Society activity. It was going to be a good night.
We got home and I settled on the couch for about 15 minutes when Daniel’s phone rang. It was the hospital. Something had changed for them (someone else had their baby) so they had room for me and so they said to come in and they were going to induce me! GULP! Daniel talked to them so I didn’t even have time to try and back out. We were going back in! So we loaded up and back to the hospital we went. By the time we got there it was a little after 4. So they booked me back in and up to maternity we went. They attached me back to some monitors and Dr. Naude came and broke my water. Daniel sat in the corner trying not to pass out as hands were going places that Daniel had issues with. J So they were reaching and all the sudden GUSH! Water went everywhere . . . and I started laughing. The nurse about lost it at well (at me) and Dr. Naude chuckled a bit. Apparently not many people laugh when their waters break. It was kinda funny and felt so weird.
Well they kept me hooked up for an hour and then let us wander. So wander we did and found an outside patio to sit on for a while. I was starting to have a few contractions by this point. But it wasn’t bad. Then we found the TV lounge and starting watching movies in there until they found us (drat)! The nurse said Dr. Naude wanted me started on the drip (dun dun dunnnnnnn). So back to the room we went and hooked up again I was. Daniel and I played phase 10 (I won) and then Jen Isackson came over and hung out for a while and brought Bohnanza (best game ever if you’ve never heard of it). Just before she left she was telling me to embrace for the next 12 hours (your average labor time). I thought to myself . . . hell no.  It was about 8:15ish by the time she left and Daniel was out getting some dinner when all the sudden the wall of contractions hit me. HOLY DINA! It literally went from level 1 to level 6 in a matter of five minutes. Took my breath away but I was still able to talk to the nurse through contractions (barely, I was forcing it out.)
Daniel showed up by 9:00. Before Daniel showed up I had been talking to the nurse about drugs and such (yes my plan was drug free and natural but hey, I got induced so I figured I could cheat on the drugs too). I didn’t want the epidural because I was still managing them alright I just wanted something to take the edge away and so morphine it was (I was still coherent enough to remember people telling me I’d cave and get the epiduralso obviously I was still stubborn enough that I wouldn’t let them have that pleasure, thanks Tiff!! J) She told me they could give me morphine once every 3-4 hours. Again I thought to myself . . . this little rugrat is going to be out of me before then! So Daniel comes in and the Nurse checks me out and see’s that I’m dilated to 4cm. WOOT! On goes the morphine and the worst level of pain with the contractions disappeared, for maybe 45 minutes. It was still pretty bad but between contractions my body was able to relax a little better. I was still kinda joking around with them at this point and making myself laugh and say stupid things to Daniel how this was his fault . . . and doing the ridiculous breathing you see in movies (it took my mind off of it all). At some point though that wall disappeared and it hurt! The morphine was gone, not really but it wasn’t doing me any good anymore. . . So I just found a good hold of Daniel’s hand and held it like crazy when the pain hit (Apparently the contractions at this point were about 2 minutes apart. I call bull on that because they were only ten seconds apart). It would be contraction contraction “2 minute break” contraction contraction contraction “2 minute break”. Brutal!
The nurse was there the entire time telling me how good I was doing. So was Daniel, Daniel was pretty fantastic reminding me to breathe deep and counting with me, even if I hated him at the time for being so calm. I did tell him to shut up a few times. I’m glad he didn’t listen J.  Around this time I got on a exercise ball and that kinda helped things out, got me up anyway . . . even if I farted during a contraction and apologized for it and then peed myself and laughed about that too (go me! I was real classy!) Daniel says I was on the ball for . . . 30 minutes give or take. I wouldn’t know . . . time didn’t exist to me anymore . . . was not my friend. With one contraction I had while on the ball there was this really strange feeling that came with it, took my mind off the pain. But it came again and again. Then I thought to myself . . . “Why does my body need to poop now?”
Then it dawned on me. My body wanted me to start pushing. So I asked the nurse if it was normal at this point for me to want to push. Her eyes went as big as saucers and said she needed to check me out if I felt like pushing. Somehow between contractions I made it on the bed and got checked out. I was 9 cm dilated.
They count me starting labor at 9:15 when I was 4 cm. at 11:15 I was 9 cm. Two hours= 5 cm. Hence the pain! She said “Don’t push! We need to get you to a different room!” and out she went to get a wheelchair.
All I could think was stupid nurse! I don’t want to move. I don’t want to sit in a wheelchair. Daniel says to me, “well here comes a scene from a movie.” I looked at him like he was an idiot, but it must have been more of a, “What the heck are you talking about?” look because he explained to me, “You know when they rush a pregnant woman down the hallway in a wheelchair and she’s screaming her face off.” I’m pretty sure I rolled my eyes at him . . . or at least tried to.
Somehow I got in the wheelchair (a lot of coaching from Daniel) and made it to Labor and Delivery, where somehow I managed to get on the bed. They then offered me the miracle of all miracles . . . LAUGHING GAS!!! To Daniel I guess it looked like I was going to pass on it but really I was just thinking of all the other times in my life when I had laughing gas and it was BLISSFUL! I got that mask on, Daniel held it for me. And within one minute pain meant nothing. I could still feel it but I didn’t care anymore. The first contraction on it I still felt but it suddenly seemed like nothing. Why was I being such a woose? Haha. If there were any contractions after that I don’t know. Daniel did say he was watching the monitors and reading the contractions but I was out of it! He said my feet would start to wiggle (I moved my legs during the contractions to ease things up) with each contraction but I guess it was pretty pathetic.
When I got the laughing gas I remember thinking to things to myself before I went under, focus on Daniel and when you come to again (I knew they would eventually take it away the jerks) you will get to push! So all I remember on the laughing gas is listening to Daniel telling me to breathe and him counting to ten. I thought I was coherent but I guess I fell asleep for 15 minutes. Then they stole my mask.
It took a while to come too but the first thing I remember is someone checking me out and saying she can start pushing. WOOT WOOT! I did get a little mad at them for taking the gas away. I started talking like a drunk indian (no joke) saying things like, “tan I hav tat back?” “I yike tat stuff”.
But I started pushing and focusing on Daniel again talking me through and counting. I had something to brace my legs on and bars to grasp with my hands. Apparently I let go of the hand bar one time and caught a hold of one of Daniel’s belly rolls . . . So he had his turn to breathe like a pregnant woman in labor. J (I have no memory of this at all). After that he was good at watching my hand and when it would let go so he could move and I’d just get his shirt.
So here I am pushing and the nurses say they can see his head, and are asking if they should call the doctor. They decide to give him a call, so he’s on his way. I’m pushing with each contraction and with one contraction I remember thinking  “that one felt different, okay Indie, 5 more contractions and he’s coming out!”
And basically that’s how it went. I remember seeing Dr. Naude come in a get his cover on and a nurse helping him put on gloves. Then I pushed as the second nurse just finished putting her glove on and caught his head. J Dr. Naude grabbed his head from her and I felt utter bliss! Best feeling in the world! I knew I was done! But the Doctor said, “no you need to keep pushing!” (apparently shoulders need to come out too. Who knew? Haha) So I gave the wimpiest push of my life and Sean Gregory Fyfe entered this world.
They laid him on me while they cleaned him off and all I thought to myself was, that is one big baby! Daniel got to cut the cord. Sean wasn’t breathing the best when he came out because of the morphine I got so they wisked him off to the side and everyone was over by him. I was kinda freaking out because he wasn’t crying and Daniel was keeping me calm and telling me he was breathing but I couldn’t really see because the stupid bed bars were in my way! I got Daniel to drop them so I could see my beautiful baby boy and saw him just as he made his first scream. I think he just screamed because they gave him a shot to counteract the morphine. He screamed for a little while and then calmed down.
Dr. Naude left him in the nurse’s hand and starting fixing me. I wasn’t too impressed. I was so done with being poked and prodded but I made it through and got my stitches and found out I had a 3rd degree tear. J Let’s just say that’s not too fun.  As the nurse was still cleaning Sean we had a guessing game to see how heavy he was. I said oh he`s easily 8 something. (I really didn`t want to admit that he would be heavier then that.) The nurse`s guess was 8lbs 6oz. Then her eyes went really big when the scale said 8lbs 15oz. one ounce shy of nine pounds. But thankfully one ounce I didn`t have to push out. He was pretty long too at 22.5 inches. A big boy! Luckily his head wasn`t that big. J I don`t remember the measurements for that but he is well proportioned. I finally held him after I was all stitched up and he just cuddled right in. I started talking and he just opened his eyes and looked straight at me.
Then I had to get up and head back to my room, weirdest feeling standing and feeling all that weight gone. So we headed back and he took to feeding right away like a pro. I didn`t get much sleep that night just from all the excitement!
And that`s how little Sean came into my life. I love him so much it`s just ridiculous! Helps that he is a pretty cute little boy. Has Daddy and me wrapped around his finger!
Oh and I should brag that his 3rd night home I got five hours of sleep! J

Just a Typical Post about Mother's Day. . . What do you expect?

Happy Mother's Day!

What an Awesome day.
I got a zero gravity chair from my hubby.
He made me lunch.
We got to sit outside for 3 hours (in my new chair)
He made me BBQ chicken and baked potatoes.
I made homemade ice cream in a bag.
I hit the big 40 weeks!

ignore the whale of a belly. and I'm shaking Ice cream. :) it was delicious. This is totally the last picture. I'm secretly hoping to go into labor tonight. :)
Anyway. That was my Mother's Day. Even if my child is still in utero.
40 weeks down and only a potential of 2 left. :P

But Happy Day to my Wonderful Mommy.
She's the best!
She's the reason that I'm as crazy as I am.
She taught me everything I need to know in life.
She's supported me in all my major life decisions.
She gives me advice but still make me make the decision.
She didn't completely lose her mind with 6 kids.
She loves me and still helps me out all the time.
She's willing to go on random trips with me.
She still lets me spend her money! (don't tell Greg)
She still loves me even though I have added a few grey hairs to her head.
I love her lots and am so glad she's mine!
Love you Monnny!

39 down. 1 to go. . . maybe 2. . or 3. .

Time will tell.

It's hard to imagine when you get pregnant and can't see or feel anything except sickness and being tired. Then you start bloating. Then you start rounding out in your hips chest and your belly (finally). But it isn't till over 20 weeks before people can actually tell and so can you. but hey that's when you start feeling movement and actual life in there.
Then you hit that final trimester and think oh yes! the first 6 months flew by and these last 3 will too!
And they do. . . right up till ya hit 36 weeks. Then it's like a whole new nine months. But hey. I've hit that final trimester mark again. One more week.
One week.
7 days.
It'll come.
Still so hard to wrap my head around. Yeah this little monkey is kicking and moving and using my bladder as his own personal trampoline and water bed. It's getting kinda tight for both of us.
I'm ready to evict him. But he's starting early to not listen to well to his parents. (he's so grounded when he comes out :) )
Now it's just hard to imagine holding my little man in my arms. And seeing him in his daddy's arms. I can't imagine it. I'm so excited for it.
It's coming. One day or another. Hopefully soon.
My family are all placing bets.
Dani was May 6 - WRONG
My Mom says May 9
Greg say's May 12 (my actual due date)
Skyler says May 14 (she's not getting a Christmas present)

So we shall see. I like my mom's and greg's picks the best.

My doc says he'll see me in a week, or sooner. I hope sooner.

Time will tell.

ps I'm so done posting pictures.
so count last weeks as the last one you'll see.
:)

Spring Cleaning

What a day we have had today!
So much got accomplished!
(Must be that whole nesting phase)

We got:

the bathroom done
shelves hung
house cleaned
the yard all cleaned up

I'll be honest though,
this post is mostly about the bathroom!
IT'S FINISHED!
It all started when we bought the house.
We had to redo the shower.
(ya'll remember that? Click here if ya don't and scroll down a bit)
Well over time we decided we would do the floor, toilet, and vanity.
So we waited for sales.
Finally accumulated all of it.
And chose April 27, 2013 to get it all done.

I mean, laying flooring and putting in a new toilet and vanity can only take so long right?
WRONG!
Never plan a renovation to only take one day.
You'll get proven wrong.

We ended up having to replace the toilet flange
(no big deal)
change our flooring option from linoleum to tile
(much better)
And rip out a bit of drywall to check for mold.
(UGH!)

But, we got it done.
It only took about 2 nights to get the toilet back in
(I slept upstairs on the couch those nights)
And just under a week to get the vanity in.

But it is now complete!
And looks AMAZING!
Let's check it out shall we?

the original, I'm sorry you can't really see the atrocious floor we had

New floor, and the whole in the wall. there was one where the toilet goes. But we patched that

My muscle man putting in the toilet

Toilet

Vanity

All Done!
I'm so glad I have such a handy man for a husband! makes Reno's much cheaper!
And good friends who know what they are doing too!

April Fool's!

. . . . . . . .
Did I say it was Spring?
. . . . . . .

Maybe in a few more days.
. . . . . . . . .

Spring is Here! :)

I will finally admit that Spring has finally found its way to Lloydminster. I admit that because yesterday it got into the double digits and today is suppose to as well!

IT'S SPRING! :)

I can see my front yard. I can see my backyard. There are buds on the trees. Birds chirping away. Still waiting on seeing that robin though.

Daniel even broke out the BBQ a few nights ago to make some steaks. :) and Then again last night to make burgers. :) Ahhh the smell of a BBQ.

It's even nice enough to start going on walks again! :) and you don't have to bundle up with toques and boots and gloves and the works. The wind still gets a little chilly but I can live with that.

Just some things we've found on our walks:

Spring is so lovely. Oh how I've missed it! 6 months of winter was far too long! I for one am not going to complain when it gets hot. I'll just remember this endless winter that we had. And the sad fact that winter is closer then it seems. (oh the joys of living north)
But as it is. I'm going to enjoy this Spring that is here. And the fact that it means my baby is closer to coming!  Yay for Spring!

Speaking of baby. . . . Tycy had her baby 4 weeks early. Amie had hers right on the due date. I hope that doesn't mean my child will be the stubborn one. As of May 1 if you see me doing anything crazy don't judge to harshly. I'll just be trying to go into labor. :)
